There’s a lot of family-money drama this week. According to People magazine, Chadwick Boseman’s brothers are petitioning a Los Angeles court to remove his widow, Taylor Simone Ledward, as administrator of his estate — six years after his death. And per TMZ, Wendy Williams’ guardian, Sabrina Morsy, has settled the legal battle with A&E over the Where Is Wendy Williams? documentary. Same week as the Malcolm-Jamal Warner trust fight. Here’s what the filings say, what they don’t prove yet, and why both stories keep circling the same lesson.
Grief Has No Expiration Date — But Court Orders Do
Look, Kevin and Derek Boseman allege that Taylor has not properly distributed Chadwick’s remaining estate assets since he died, and they want her removed. Immediately when I read that, my first thought wasn’t “greedy widow.” If you’ve lost someone, the last thing you probably want is to be the administrator of an estate. There is no expiration date on grief. I’m not saying she hasn’t dropped the ball — I’m saying not everyone is built for business paperwork while the world keeps reminding you your person is gone. Here’s the thing — Chadwick died without a will about six days after they wed in 2020. Per the petition, Taylor is entitled to 50%, and his parents, Leroy and Carolyn, are supposedly entitled to 25%. The brothers say she continues to exercise complete control without input from the parents. Attorneys for both sides did not immediately respond to People. Just saying.
“There is no expiration date on grief.”
What the Petition Actually Claims
According to the filing, a court allegedly issued a final order in 2022 directing Taylor to distribute estate assets, including a $4,000 lifelong term-care policy to mom Carolyn. Kevin and Derek claim she never distributed that policy or one of Chadwick’s bank accounts, that his IRA remained inexplicably open, and that residuals from SAG-AFTRA dating back to 2020 are unaccounted for. They also allege the estate includes royalties, image and intellectual property rights, real property, a previously undisclosed CNB bank account, and other personal property — and that her lack of transparency creates the appearance she’s concealing assets. Or she just doesn’t want to oversee it. They’re asking the court to appoint Jason Rubin, a private professional fiduciary and forensic accountant, in her place. I’ve twerked on the fence here before with Michael Jackson’s estate — he didn’t put a family member in charge for a reason. Play devil’s advocate and you still land on checks and balances: family involved, plus a third party who isn’t bleeding for the same reasons.
Not Always Black and White on Paper
The brothers say they’re fighting on their parents’ behalf — Chadwick probably took care of Leroy and Carolyn when fame hit, and six years without closure is a long time. On the other end, family money fights are rarely as clean as “greedy wife vs. loving parents.” Who else got taken care of through the brother or through the parents? I don’t know. It’s not always as black and white as it looks on paper. Chadwick died in August of 2020 at 43 after a private four-year battle with colon cancer. Next month makes six years. These estate messes happen every day — you just don’t hear about them when the name isn’t Chadwick Boseman. This is your reminder again: if you have property, savings, family, or kids you want protected, estate planning is not optional. We shall see what the court does with the petition.
Free Wendy — the A&E Piece Settled, Conservatorship Didn’t
TMZ reports Sabrina Morsy and A&E resolved all issues and the lawsuit is being dropped. In the original case, Sabrina wanted the documentary halted — that didn’t happen — and later floated damages that included A&E covering Wendy’s healthcare for life, which fed the rumor mill that Wendy’s millions may have been depleted. Wendy and her lawyer have disputed the “effectively incapacitated” framing. Wendy’s still in assisted living despite efforts to terminate the guardianship. Her niece took her out for her birthday this past weekend — she looked great — and there was another protest for her. I don’t 100% believe the attorney who said she’d be free by the end of last year. We’re more than halfway through 2026 with no clarity. The bright side of a settlement is usually that you never learn the number — my concern is who’s getting paid, how much Sabrina charged the estate to fight this for years, and how much is left after tens of thousands a month in facility costs and that condo that allegedly sold way below asking. How do you guys feel about that — should Taylor stay, should a forensic accountant step in, and how loud do we keep saying free Wendy? Drop it below. Here we go.
