The Real Housewives of Potomac Season 11, Episode 1, Read Between the Lies, is the best premiere this show has had in years. I walked into Monday’s live giving it a nine, and after two and a half hours of recapping it with y’all, I had to give it a 10. People showed up for work. People were funny. Karen Huger is home, regular Robyn is back as a friend, Wendy Osefo pulled up in a G-Wagon, and Tia found out on camera that the group has been talking about her husband being on dating apps. We watched it together on Patreon Sunday night. Here we go.
Y’all Are Not Making Ray Huger the Bad Guy
Karen opens the season on a yoga mat with her Bible, incense and a crystal, and the edit has Ray walking out to the car without a goodbye. I’m not saying Karen didn’t come home with a bigger sense of spirituality. It was giving rehearsed. And I’m not doing the Ray-is-the-villain storyline. That man was out at 11 at night, in his 80s, picking his wife up after a DUI, and I’m never going to forget how shook he looked. For all we know he said goodbye and came back for his sunglasses. I do believe they’ve grown apart, and I can see a sober Karen who’s home on probation being a different wife than the one he’s used to. On Watch What Happens Live, she didn’t say divorce, she said they’re working through it. At the OG lunch she said she’s not a big drinker and it was more about the medication, and Gizelle’s face said it for all of us. That’s the accountability I’ll keep holding her to. But those confessionals are top tier. Everything y’all think Gizelle is, it’s Karen. The grande dame has risen.
“Stop calling my name. I’m paying your mortgage. I’m feeding Juan. I should get a 10% commission.”
Tia, You’re Mad at the Wrong Person
Pay attention to the order, because the edit shows it. At that OG lunch, before anybody else says a word, Gizelle brings up Tia’s husband Rob and looks right at Ashley, and Ashley says in her confessional there’s more to Rob. Before that, Ashley sat at a Reality Rundown event full of bloggers and said Tia was going through a lot, grinning. Shout out to Teria, who had the footage. She knew it would get clipped. Then at the park, Stacey tells Tia people have been DMing her about Rob being on dating sites, and Tia believes her non-friend right away, which was weird to me. After the Wizards game, Gizelle admits she’s the one who told Ashley, and Tia says she expected more from her, knowing her own history. That was a grown read. By the end, Tia confirms Rob admitted it. So why, in her Entertainment Tonight interview, does she sound more upset with Stacey? I like Tia on this show. I don’t think Stacey is 100% genuine either. But Stacey didn’t start this, and the first person to be mad at is Rob.
God Doesn’t Want You Naming a G-Wagon After a Scripture
I’m trying to see it for Wendy. I really am. But showing up to your first scene in a G-Wagon you call Psalm 91, while prosecutors are pointing at your spending in an insurance fraud case, is what I consider tacky. Stacey had to take a breath in her confessional. Wendy says people online are taking everything said about the case as Bible, and that the opportunities are gone, the teaching, the speaking engagements. She’s innocent until proven guilty, and we haven’t heard their side. I’ll also say what’s been made public so far is pretty damning. She told production she and Eddie had separate legal teams, and they’ve since moved to the same attorneys. She called it some of the darkest time in their marriage. Then at drinks she told Gizelle that how you treat me is how people will treat you when it’s your turn, because Gizelle promised not to discuss Tia on Reasonably Shady while she’s been shady about Wendy’s case there. Gizelle said Wendy’s acting innocent and she’s not. I’ve heard Gizelle called her a scammer this season, allegedly, and I wonder if that got cut.
Robyn, It Was Right There
How do we feel about regular Robyn being back? I’m okay with it in this version, and she really did build Glo30 after they let her go, so kudos. But Karen calls her Robert twice and all Robyn has is, do you want me to start calling you names? Yes. That’s the job. The jokes were sitting right there and she let Karen have it. Then she said Karen was sundowning. I had only ever heard of sundown towns, so my chat had to teach me it’s a term used with dementia patients. We learn together. In all fairness to Karen, it was after a basketball game and probably 11 at night. I’d be asleep too. New housewife Courtney, who planned Cynthia Bailey’s 10/10/20 wedding, wants a Pisces baby girl, so give her some grace. And on Reasonably Shady, Robyn and Gizelle said there’s no toxicity now because they got rid of the toxic. Who, exactly? Gizelle, you’re part of it. I don’t think I’d miss Ashley if she left. How would you rate the premiere? Is Tia mad at the right person? Let me know. Here we go.
