I recapped Reunion Part 3 yesterday: Shamea Morton told the couch the last male embryo miscarried before the first trimester, and there are no more embryos. Callers clocked Porsha Williams’s face because everybody else was emotional. On Carlos King’s Monday Night Live, Claudia Jordan said Porsha should have been more empathetic — once your best friend, years of friendship, a drop in the bucket next to that loss. I want y’all and the replay crew on the same question. Do you think Porsha should have offered a word? Or do you keep the same energy after Scotland?

She Found Grace for NeNe — She Still Can’t See It for Porsha

Look, take a listen, because last week Claudia was on Carlos explaining why she could never see it for Porsha. That origin story is going to sit in the back of people’s minds: everything Porsha does is wrong. This clip is her saying Porsha made a big mistake by not offering just a word. You’re supposed to be the leader, the so-called face of this franchise. She found grace for a woman who spent a season dragging her — made fun of her sexual abuse — when that woman’s mom was sick with cancer. Care package. Stuff aside. Drop in the bucket. After Season 7 with NeNe Leakes they went at it, hair, all of it, and when NeNe had a breakdown at the reunion Claudia still said something kind when she got home. NeNe emailed. Grown-woman stuff. She doesn’t see Porsha and Shamea’s beef as that evil. They both talked about each other’s mothers. You can argue who started it. The last male embryo, to her, is a bigger deal than the petty. Just saying: that’s a real standard. It’s also coming from someone who already told you she can’t see it.

“I think Porsha made a big mistake by not offering just a word.”

Dustin Named the Line

Dustin’s counter on that live is the part Claudia kept sliding past. Once you bring my mother, certain people have lines. If you talk about my mother or my child, I’m allowed to have that line, and it doesn’t make me any less decent. Also of note: Skyland is fairly recent. Both women are still very mad. It’s a bit unrealistic, he said, to expect them to be virtuous and let good sense overrule emotion in that moment. Sufficient, to him, is not making faces, not acting disgusted, not disrespecting the sanctity of what Shamea lost — and that still doesn’t mean you have to muster a speech for someone you’re actively angry with. Here’s the thing. I reported the mama fight when it aired. We do not know the full scope of how deep that drama goes. For all we know it could be a lot worse than what we think. I’m keeping an open mind because we are not in that friendship. We saw a reunion couch.

The Only Wrong Move Is a Face

I don’t think there’s a right or wrong here. The only wrong thing Porsha could have done in that moment is make a shady face or roll her eyes. I’m not going to be mad at her for not being fake and performing empathy so the rest of the world is okay with her reaction. I would much rather she keep that same energy. If the tables were reversed, I probably would have given a little grace, reached out a little, and that would have been it. The fact that she didn’t say or do anything — I’m okay with that. We also don’t know the full scope. For Team Porsha or Team Shamea, the mama line might be uglier than the edit. I’d much rather you keep the same energy so Shamea knows y’all are not good — I don’t wish harm on you, I wish you the best, that’s all I’m going to give you — than a fake moment Shamea would rewind, then invite her to a Rum Bum booty casting like everything’s cool. Porsha didn’t make a face. She kept it the way she’s been keeping it.

Twerking on the Fence Is Still a Position

This is me twerking on the fence. I can see Claudia’s side. I can see Blue’s side. I can see Dustin’s side. I prefer Porsha keep it real and be respectful, which she was. I would also be uncomfortable if she got fake in that moment, which people have accused her of before. Can we talk about the hypocrisy though? On one level it’s Claudia, we just talked about you spilling tea on someone’s pregnancy — maybe you should have had some empathy there. In this moment you still can’t see it for Porsha. You’re like, that’s your friend. Two things can be true: a lost embryo is bigger than a reunion fight, and Claudia is one of those people who, even if she’s wrong, will never own the parallel. How do you guys feel about that — speech, silence, or a face she didn’t even make? Drop it below. Empire After Dark hits The Green Room 42 on September 25. Here we go.
